Core Transit Secures $1 Million in Grant Funding to Transform Your Trip
We are proud to announce today that our agency has secured $1 million in federal grant funding during the fourth quarter of 2025, marking a major milestone in our efforts to implement the 10-Year Transit Development and Capital Plan and deliver meaningful improvements for riders across the region.
The recent award includes funding through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5339(b) Buses and Bus Facilities Grant, which supports capital improvements such as buses, facilities, and passenger amenities and directly aligns with community priorities identified through extensive public engagement.
“This funding reflects years of thoughtful planning, strong community input, and disciplined financial management,” said Tanya Allen, Executive Director of Core Transit. “It allows us to move from vision to action—delivering improvements our riders told us matter most, while being responsible stewards of public funds.”

We pursued the 5339(b) grant in direct response to multiple rounds of public outreach conducted as part of the 10-Year Plan. Riders repeatedly identified bus shelter improvements as a high-priority capital need, citing safety, comfort, and protection from weather as essential to a positive transit experience.
Funding from the grant will allow us to construct new shelters and replace aging or inadequate shelters across the system, improving accessibility, rider comfort, and safety at some of the region’s busiest stops.
“Shelters may seem simple, but they make a real difference in how people experience transit every day,” Allen said. “This grant allows us to address one of the most consistent messages we heard from the community and turn that feedback into tangible improvements.”
Planning, Accountability, and Financial Stewardship
The FTA 5339(b) award highlights our commitment to data-driven decision-making, fiscal responsibility, and long-term planning. It also represents early examples of how we are using the 10-Year Plan not only to guide investments, but to successfully compete for state and federal funding.
“This grant shows what’s possible when community voices, clear planning, and responsible financial management come together,” Bidez added. “It puts Core Transit in a strong position to continue delivering on its mission and attracting future investment.”
Our mission is to provide user-friendly transportation solutions that are safe, rewarding, and reliable, and our vision is to become the region’s first choice for getting around. We expect the recent award to support continued progress toward those goals—and to serve as a foundation for additional funding opportunities in the years ahead.
